Job Description

Description

Are you passionate about making a difference in your community and improving access to vital services like public transit? The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is seeking enthusiastic individuals with experience in community engagement to join our team as a Community Engagement Specialist. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to support programs that directly benefit communities, ensuring that transit solutions are inclusive, accessible, and meet the needs of all riders.

At UTA, we are dedicated to engaging with the community through a variety of outreach efforts that promote public participation opportunities and foster strong partnerships across the transit service area. You’ll work alongside a dynamic team to build connections with local organizations, community leaders, and individuals, ensuring that community voices are considered in the future of transit. If you're looking to contribute to meaningful projects that have a real, lasting impact, this is the role for you.

As the Community Engagement Specialist, you will:
  • Coordinate and support targeted community engagement and outreach that supports public participation and partnership-building efforts for the agency.
  • Facilitate partnerships directly with community groups and organizations, such as schools, youth, low-income, and marginalized ethnic and racial communities, as well as chambers of commerce, local governmental and non-governmental agencies, and professional organizations.
  • Collaborate with the Engagement team to plan, develop, and implement innovative, inclusive, and effective community engagement projects and processes to ensure transit solutions are informed by and work well for the community.
  • Develop short and long-term engagement goals in collaboration with the team.
  • Develop and support public engagement processes that are inclusive, representative, and provide an opportunity for communities to have a voice in transit planning and decision-making.
  • Coordinate with appropriate internal and external stakeholders to facilitate public participation in transit-related projects and plan and coordinate events.
  • Identify transportation issues and needs of the community and work to represent those needs internally at Utah Transit Authority (UTA).
  • Promote and support community use of transit and system stewardship, and ownership through outreach, education, and engagement.

Currently, we need TWO Community Engagement Specialists to join our dynamic team, each with its own focus:
  • One will focus on expanding community partnerships and managing various community engagement projects pertaining to transit planning and capital development.
  • The other will focus on our Transit Connection Program (Transit Ambassadors), which aims to provide better customer service to the community on TRAX trains and on the TRAX platforms, including assisting people who are currently experiencing homelessness.  Also, if you are given the role focusing on the Transit Connection Program, you will play a critical part in providing essential qualitative and quantitative reporting to help drive the program’s success.
