JOB SUMMARY
Develops, designs, and researches programs for technical training courses. Instructs and evaluates complex technical training projects and provides guidance for the interpretation and application of Utah Transit Authority (UTA)’s Maintenance Training curriculum. Supervises and coaches trainees. Mediates between management and the Union regarding training activities. Stays up to date on all pertinent technological advances. Leads, facilitates, and participates in committee meetings to ensure group effectiveness and awareness. Develops, updates, and conducts the Commuter Rail Technician Apprenticeship Program, supports the development of certification courses, such as HVAC 608. Serves as backup for the Maintenance Apprentice Training Administrator by representing the training department on the JATC, maintenance manager meetings, and other meetings as required.
This position’s primary focus is to support the Light Rail Apprenticeship Training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Associate degree in Heavy Duty Diesel Mechanics, Electrical, Electronics, related field, or completion of Bonafide Apprenticeship Program.
Other qualifications that may be required based on primary assigned area of responsibility.
- QMP Certified
- 608 HVAC Certification
- Forklift Instructor Certification
Must have a valid Utah driver’s license with no more than 2 moving violations in the past 3 years and no convictions for driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug in the past 10 years.
EXPERIENCE:
Six (6) years progressive experience in a technical environment including experience in a related field. Experience as Maintenance Instructor or Maintenance Mentor preferred. Experience in a union environment preferred.
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge (journeyist level) of bus, rail, or MOW systems, including electrical, HVAC, track switching, signal maintenance, etc.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Basic understanding of diagnostic computer software, when applicable.
Skills:
- Demonstrated skills in training to include curriculum development, team development and leadership.
- Must have excellent writing skills, project coordination, coaching, and supervision skills.
- Good project and time management skills.
Abilities:
- Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
- Must be or be able to become forklift certified.
