JOB SUMMARY
Supervises continuous operation of Utah Transit Authority (UTA)’s TRAX System, integrating system support services of Light Rail with other UTA departments into a unified transportation product. Ensures Rail Operations meet goal of a safe, reliable, and friendly system. Fosters a climate of communication, cooperation, professionalism, and respect.
Supervises Trax alignment with assignment to specified area but will respond to any area needed, being particularly sensitive to arriving at work on time, in position, and responsive on the radio while on duty. Operate a fleet vehicle to respond to malfunctioning trains, customer concerns (including biohazards), trespassers, platform issues, and track issues. Respond to passenger issues in a professional manner utilizing de-escalation and empathy to resolve conflicts. Conducts accident investigations following incidents involving Light Rail. Assists Train Operators throughout system with things such as troubleshooting issues and customer concerns. Understands all track conditions within assigned territory including slow orders and effect on productivity and reliability. Proactively helps customers, peers, and management achieve their objectives. Monitors results and verifies successful outcomes.
Manages resources in safe and efficient manner. Represents department in meetings with outside agencies, being self-motivated, reliable, and proactive. Does not have any direct report employees but oversees employees on duty during the shift.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Associate degree in Business Management or a related field. A valid UTA Light Rail Operator license is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
At least two years leadership experience which may include supervision, operating instructor, union position, or other relevant leadership experience. Good previous job performance. (In evaluating previous job performance, the following will be considered: missouts, non-FMLA protected unscheduled absences, and formal disciplinary actions.) Two years of work experience in the Transit industry preferred.
Must have a valid Utah driver's license with no more than 2 moving violations in the past three 3 years, and no violation of driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.

Abilities:
- Obtain and maintain quarterly TRAX operator license.
- Pass and acquire DOT medical certification.
- Obtain and maintain Roadway Worker Protection Certifications
- Pass FRA required Audiometric and Colorblind tests.
- Show basic level proficiency in MS Word and Outlook (basic level proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint preferred).
- Perform the physical requirements of the job to include regular walking in a quick manner on uneven surfaces, floor to waist lifting up to 25 lbs. regularly, reaching/lifting overhead up to 10 lbs., climbing into and out of a Rail Service vehicle at non-station locations, kneeling and working in tight spaces to lace trains, and prolonged periods of sitting and standing.
