As a Train Host for the Utah Transit Authority, you will:
- Oversee the safety of customers boarding/riding the Commuter Rail (Frontrunner)
- Provide customer service at station platforms.
- Assist passengers with bridge plate deployment per ADA requirements.
- Oversee the wellbeing of customers on board the train and station platforms.
- Walk the entire train in between stations.
- Communicate appropriate information to dispatchers, Transit Police, customers, supervisors, and others designated to receive such information.
- Answer questions from customers and others.
- Shuttle UTA personnel and passengers using a non-revenue shuttle van to transport other UTA personnel and passengers on occasion.
Shift Information
- This position is part-time, not to exceed 29 hours per week.
- Both AM and PM shifts are available, but we have a particular need for people willing to start their shift in Salt Lake City at Salt Lake Central Station.
- Shift schedules change 3 times a year and applicants work schedule could be different each time as they are decided by shift bid through Seniority.

Minimum Qualifications
EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- One year experience in a customer service role providing face to face instructions and clarifying information with ability to solve problems and resolve customer inquiries.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successfully complete a required training program (training provided by UTA)
- Speaking a second language is a plus but not required.
LICENSES/TRAINING
- Must have a valid Utah Driver’s License with no more than 4 moving violations in the past 3 years; cannot have more than 1 violation of driving under the influence of alcohol or any drug within the last 10 years.
- Training in CPR and emergency preparedness is a plus but not required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Communicate with supervisors and customers and maintain good customer relations both orally and over the phone and radio.
- Read and understand training materials, operating manuals and operating and safety rules and directives.
- Prepare legible written reports of incidents.
- Work independently without supervision.
- Perform the physical requirements of the job to include constantly walking – required to walk the entire consist of train between all stations for entire shift; ability to maintain stability while walking to include stairs on a moving train; place a bridge plate in doorway to accommodate passengers boarding and alighting the train per ADA requirements; open/push doors between cars; and hand out granola and water when necessary – lifting up to 35 lbs.
